- Where to stand
- The forecourt in front of the main entrance on Cromwell Road, or the top of the central staircase in Hintze Hall.
- Composition
- Outside, frame the symmetrical façade head-on with a wide lens and place your subject small at the bottom centre. Inside, shoot from the top of the stairs to include both the whale skeleton and the arched ceiling.
Tips
- Tripods and lighting are restricted inside, so shoot handheld
- Watch the flow of visitors and don't block walkways
- The exterior looks best in front-lit morning light
Overview
A museum famous for its grand Romanesque building and the blue whale skeleton suspended in Hintze Hall. Both the terracotta exterior and the vast interior are photogenic, and it works well for rainy-day YouTube and vlog shoots.
